Beef Or Salmon Set For Irish Grand National
Thursday 20 March 2008 at 16:13 Veteran racehorse Beef Or Salmon looks set to race in Monday's (March 24th) Irish Grant National at Fairyhouse.
The 12-year-old will be shouldering top-weight for the encounter and is currently 14/1 shot with Paddy Power to claim the Irish national crown.
But despite his weight issues, trainer Michael Hourigan is confident that his charge will put in a strong performance.
The handler told RTE: "He has been doing a lot of swimming and all the right things since his run in the Hennessy."
Revealing his hope that the ground would remain soft, Mr Hourigan added: "Giving weight away to all his rivals is obviously not ideal but the likelihood of soft ground would suit our horse and possibly hinder some of the others so with a bit of luck, he'll put up a good show."
Meanwhile, Royal County Star is the favourite to win the Irish Grand National, rated at 4/1 with Totesport.
