Scotland Hopeful About Croatia Match
Tuesday 25 March 2008 at 10:59 Scotland's match against Croatia could prove pivotal to the national team's attempt to qualify for the World Cup.
That is according to manager George Burley, who believes that his side can make a good start with their preparations for their first qualifying game in September this year when they face Croatia in a friendly tomorrow (Wednesday, March 26th)
Speaking to the BBC, Burley said that he does not think the game will be an easy one for Scotland, but the trial will prove beneficial in the end.
He explained: "Croatia are an excellent side and one of the world's top-ranked nations. It'll be a tough game, but it's about getting a feel of the squad and working to get it right for September."
Croatia are currently 6/4 favourites with Coral to win on Wednesday, but Burley is primarily concerned about his side's performance.
"On Wednesday night, I'm looking for a good performance - that's always been the key - and, if we perform right, we could get a good result. We had a good training session on Monday where worked on defensive and attacking options and we will do the same again on Tuesday."
Scotland will go on to face the Czech Republic in May and Northern Ireland in August before playing Macedonia in September.
