Kovalainen Could Give Lewis A Real Hard Time
Tuesday 25 March 2008 at 17:40 Formula One driver Heikki Kovalainen has returned to form this season and could give team mate Lewis Hamilton a real run for his money, it has been claimed.
According to McLaren boss Ron Dennis, the youngster, who struggled to make an impact while driving for Renault last year, has begun to settle into his new role as second driver in the team.
Hamilton, who missed out on last season's championship by a single point, is currently ranked at 1/6 by BlueSquare and 1/8 by Betfair to finish ahead of his Finnish teammate this year.
But with odds of an upset at 7/2 and 11/5 by the same bookies respectively, Kovalainen could yet prove to be an attractive proposition if he develops as quickly as Dennis believes that he can.
"Heikki is a guy who was systematically taken apart last year and we have systematically put him back together again," the McLaren boss told the Daily Telegraph. "Give him three more races and he will be giving Lewis a real hard time."
Kovalainen was replaced at Renault by Spanish double championship winner Fernando Alonso.
