Joe Calzaghe Confident Of Las Vegas Win
Thursday 27 March 2008 at 11:28 British boxer Joe Calzaghe is hoping to walk away victorious after his light-heavyweight fight with Bernard Hopkins next month.
Calzaghe will square up to former middleweight champion Hopkins, whose nickname is the Executioner, in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center on April 19th.
The undefeated super-middleweight champion will be topping the bill in Vegas for the first time and knows what to expect in the ring from Hopkins, who he described as a dull fighter, and is confident that his undefeated record will not be blighted.
He said: "I respect him but Hopkins is not as good as he thinks he is. He had a good run as champion but he hasn't reigned for as long as me nor beaten the quality of opponents I've beaten."
Calzaghe is perhaps justified in his confidence, as he is currently favourite at 1/2 with William Hill to be triumphant in the ring next month.
"Hopkins has hardly ever been in any exciting fights and he's very negative," Calzaghe added. "He'll do everything he can to knock me out of my rhythm because he knows I'm stronger, faster and fitter than him."
