Hyypia Set To Extend Liverpool Contract
Thursday 27 March 2008 at 12:40 Sami Hyypia is poised to sign a new contract with Liverpool this weekend.
That is according to Anfield boss Rafael Benitez, who said yesterday (Wednesday, March 26th) that the club is due to finalise talks with Hyypia's agent.
If Benitez is correct and the defender agrees to extend his contract, which runs out at the end of this season, this will make him one of a select number of players who have spent more than a decade with the club.
He said: "Rick Parry (Liverpool chief executive) is due to talk to Sami's agent this weekend and we hope everything will then be finished."
Liverpool are due to play Everton on Sunday and are currently 4/5 favourites with SkyBet to be victorious over the Toffeemen.
Earlier this year, Hyypia indicated that he would like to stay at the club, saying: "It would be very nice to get to ten years at the club, but I'm just concentrating on playing well. Whether I stay wouldn't depend on how many games I play. I'm not like that. I'm not interested in somebody promising me something."
