Ferdinand Could Return For Champions League
Tuesday 08 April 2008 at 16:29 Rio Ferdinand could face Roma in the Champions League quarter-final, despite fears for the defender's fitness after limping off against Middlesbrough.
Manchester United are at 4/7 with Stan James to beat the Italians at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
Ferdinand limped out of the 2-2 draw at the Riverside on Sunday, but a scan has revealed that nothing was broken and he will face a fitness test on Wednesday to decide if he can take part in the game.
Alex Ferguson told reporters: "His scan was clear, that was the important thing. Therefore we are hoping we can get him fit to face Roma."
His absence, together with Nemanja Vidic's three-week layoff, would leave Manchester United with defensive problems.
Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre are only just returning from injury and the other option, Gerard Pique, is inexperienced at the highest level.
Roma are seen at outsiders for the tie, with their inspirational skipper Franceco Totti still out injured, and are 5/1 with Boylesports to beat the English champions.
