Woods Focuses On Tarver
Thursday 10 April 2008 at 16:04 Clinton Woods is putting any thoughts of a future bout with Joe Calzaghe out of his mind as he prepares for Saturday's fight against Antonio Tarver.
The IBF light-heavyweight champion is the slight outsider with the bookmakers at odds of 11/19 with totesport.
Preliminary discussions have taken place with regards to a future showdown with Calzaghe but Woods knows that it will not happen unless he gets past Tarver.
He said: "It is no secret that if I beat Tarver and Joe beats Hopkins, it is the fight everybody wants - and it is definitely the fight that I want.
"It really would be a super-fight and it is the natural fight to make. I am convinced I am going to beat Tarver and I think Joe will be too fresh for Hopkins, so it should happen."
Tarver is a former undisputed champion and appeared in the latest Rocky film as Sylvester Stallone's opponent in the ring.
The American is favoured on his own soil, and Woods was stopped in six rounds in his only previous fight in the US by Roy Jones Jnr. You can get odds of 10/11 with William Hill for Tarver to beat the Sheffield born boxer.
