Rose Shares Lead After Masters First Round
Friday 11 April 2008 at 11:40 Justin Rose shared the lead of the US Masters with South African Trevor Immelman after the first round at Augusta yesterday.
After a four-under par first round of 68, world number-nine Rose has moved to second favourite for the tournament with odds coming in to 7/1 with 888sport.
Rose was two-over par after five holes, but four birdies in a row turned his day around, and he got up and down from the bunker on the final hole.
After his round he said: "The golf course does suit my game to a large extent. I've become a good putter on fast greens, I hit irons high and soft and I've learned to be patient."
He has previously led the Masters twice before after the first round, and finished fifth in 2007 after double-bogeying the 17th when within one shot of the lead.
"I've learned you can't count your chickens too early", he remarked about his first round lead.
Tiger Woods is still the clear favourite for the tournament at 2/1 with Partybets. The world number one carded a level par 72 ,with the highlight a chip-in for eagle at the 15th.
