Entries Aim To Keep National Trophy North Of The Border
Wednesday 16 April 2008 at 11:29 Two entries in this weekend's Scottish Grand National are hoping the title of champion stays north of the border.
It has been 26 years since the last Scottish winner of the race and entries Wild Cane Ridge and Strong Resolve are the nation's two hopes of a repeat success at Ayr racecourse.
Wild Cane Ridge is in the top ten fancied horses for Saturday's race at 16/1 with William Hill, while Strong Resolve is seen as a firm outsider at 100/1 with Coral.
Len Lungo, trainer of Wild Cane Ridge, told the Scotsman: "He ran okay at Cheltenham but he won a nice race before that over hurdles and we're happy with him.
"We've been getting him ready and he's been doing lots of jumping so hopefully he'll be fine", he added.
The favourite for the race at Ayr on Saturday is the Robert Alner trained Miko De Beauchene, who won last year's Welsh National. His odds have come in slightly to 6/1 with Ladbrokes.
