Celtic Still In Premier League Title Race
Thursday 17 April 2008 at 11:09 Celtic remain in the Scottish Premier League title race after their last-gasp victory over Rangers at Celtic Park.
An injury-time winner from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink took them to within one point of their Old Firm rivals and their title odds have come in to 15/4 with SportingBet.
Responding to the victory, Celtic midfielder Aiden McGeady said: "There were accusations levelled at us for having a lack of character or any leaders in the team but I don't think you can say that after tonight.
"It was a great performance. We were looking at a 1-1 draw and the league would have been out of our hands."
Celtic went ahead with a Shunsuke Nakamura goal. Nacho Novo equalised for the Gers before Vennegoor of Hesselink's late winner. Carlos Cuellar was earlier shown a red card for handling on the line, but Celtic missed the resulting penalty.
Tempers flared at the final whistle and Gary Caldwell and David Weir were shown red cards for their part in the brawl.
Rangers are still favourites for the Scottish Premier League title, having two games in hand over their rivals. They are priced at 2/9 with Betfred to lift the trophy.
