OSullivan Begins Title Bid
Wednesday 23 April 2008 at 10:43 Ronnie O'Sullivan will begin his bid for a third snooker World Championship title at the Crucible on Wednesday.
The 2001 and 2004 winner is the favourite to lift the crown at 11/4 with William Hill.
O'Sullivan still faces disciplinary action from the sport's governing body after his behaviour during a press conference at the China Open. He faces Chinese qualifier Liu Chang in the first round.
Pre-tournament second-favourite Mark Selby was knocked out by Mark King on Tuesday. The beaten finalist from 2007 said: "It's a little bit disappointing but I don't think over the two days I've really performed.
"I've had a great season and won two tournaments so I can't complain, but obviously it's a shame not to be able to come back here and do well," he added.
Shaun Murphy is now seen as O'Sullivan's main threat to the title and currently holds a 7-2 interval lead over Dave Harold.
The Rotherham-born player is 6/1 with VCbet to lift the World Championship trophy for a second time.
