Rangers Can Acquit Themselves Well In Semi
Thursday 24 April 2008 at 11:41 Rangers manager Walter Smith believes his team can overcome Fiorentina in the Uefa Cup semi-final first leg on Thursday.
The Gers are still aiming for a historic quadruple and are 15/8 with Ladbrokes to win at Ibrox.
Rangers are without several first-team players including Lee McCulloch, Chris Burke, Charlie Adam, Steven Naismith and goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who are all injured.
Captain Barry Ferguson and Kevin Thomson are both suspended for the first-leg clash.
Rangers will line up with the same back four that has kept four clean sheets in the last four European games.
Smith said: "We have looked at the opposition and then we will look at our own squad and select from there.
"We have a requisite number available to us so we are quite confident the side we put out will acquit themselves well."
Fiorentina beat Premier League team Everton on their way to the final four of the competition and star-player Adrian Mutu has bagged six goals in the Uefa Cup this season.
The Italians are 7/4 with BetFred to have a lead to take back to Florence for the second leg next week.
