West Broms Promotion All But Assured
Tuesday 29 April 2008 at 10:52 West Bromwich Albion remain at the top of the Championship table after a 1-1 draw with Southampton at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies sit level on points with Stoke City, but with a superior goal difference, and are 1/2 with bet365 to life the Championship trophy.
Southampton stunned the home fans when Adam Lallana put them ahead, before a Chris Brunt goal with seven minutes to go left West Brom on the brink of promotion.
There is only one round of games to go in the Championship and an unlikely set of results are needed to deny West Brom Premier League football next season.
Hull City would have to win at Ipswich and manufacture a 12-goal swing to deny Tony Mowbray's team promotion.
West Brom manager Mowbray said: "I am delighted for the players and the staff. It has been a long, hard season after the play-off final defeat and the changes in the squad during the summer."
Stoke City, who face relegation-threatened Leicester on the final day of the season, are the only team who can prevent West Brom from going up champions.
They have odds of 13/8 with Stan James to lift the Championship trophy next Sunday.
