Double Vase Chance For OBrien
Thursday 08 May 2008 at 08:44
Aidan O'Brien will seek further success at the Roodee when he sends out Vivaldi and Wassily Kandisky in Thursday's Bank of America Chester Vase. Coolmore enjoyed victory in the Cheshire Oaks at Chester on Wednesday when Johnny Murtagh's mount Sail beat Sugar Mint by half a length.
However, O'Brien's two runners in the Vase are not among those bookmakers view as serious contenders.
Vivaldi, who won over a mile at Gowran Park on his last outing in July 2007, is 9/2 fourth favourite at Paddy Power for the eight-runner race.
Wassily Kandisky, without a win in his four races, is a 33/1 outsider at Betfred, but can be backed at 40/1 on Betfair.
Both horses have been entered in the Epsom Derby and O'Brien admitted that the Chester Vase is really just experience for Vivaldi.
He added: "Wassily Kandinsky was just beaten in a maiden by one of Dermot Weld's who has won a few since then and I hope he improves for his first run [this year]."
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained Doctor Freemantle is 2/1 favourite with Paddy Power, despite finishing second behind Bronze Cannon over ten furlongs at Newmarket last month.
