Gers Cut SPL Gap
Thursday 08 May 2008 at 09:55
Rangers closed the gap on Scottish Premier League (SPL) leaders Celtic to four points with a 1-0 win against Motherwell at Ibrox on Wednesday.
Captain Barry Ferguson netted the winner with just 16 minutes to play, helping to keep the Gers' attempt to win the quadruple on track.
Rangers still have two games in hand on their Glasgow rivals and despite their fixture pile-up are 5/6 favourites with VC Bet to win the title, with Celtic best-priced at 11/10 with Skybet.
Afterwards Rangers boss Walter Smith told the BBC his team may find it tough to cope with having to play their four remaining SPL games and two cup finals in a 15-day period.
"No other team in the league has been asked to play the number of games we are in such a short space of time," he complained.
The Gers are 11/8 with 888Sport to win next week's Uefa Cup final at the City of Manchester Stadium, while Zenit St Petersburg are 4/6 at Bet365 after the Russian league agreed to postpone their fixtures in order to give them more preparation time.
Rangers are, however, strong favourites to win the Scottish Cup - 1/8 with VC Bet compared to the 6/1 available at Coral for Queen of the South to cause an upset.
