Oaks Favourites Set For York Showdown
Tuesday 13 May 2008 at 09:05 A firm favourite for the Epsom Oaks is likely to emerge from Wednesday's clash between Moonstone and Dar Re Mi in the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes at York, according to a leading bookmaker.
Coolmore filly Moonstone finished second to Winchester on her debut over ten furlongs at Leopardstown last month, while John Gosden's Dar Re Mi won over the same distance at Sandown on her first appearance of the season.
That form has seen bookmakers struggle to separate the pair and they are first and second favourites for next month's Epsom classic with most major firms. Moonstone is best-priced at 7/1 with William Hill, while Dar Re Mi can be backed at the same price with Ladbrokes.
Coral's racing director Simon Clare told the Racing Post that is unlikely to be the situation after the showdown at York.
"Punters will be looking to one of them to prove her superiority and if that happens the said filly could be down to as short as 6-4 for The Oaks," Mr Clare explained.
Cape Amber (12/1 with Paddy Power for the Epsom Oaks) will also line up in the stalls for the eight-runner Musidora, as does Lush Lashes (12/1 with Betfred for the classic).
