Bilan Planning To Put On A Show
Wednesday 14 May 2008 at 10:16 Russia's Dima Bilan is planning to put on a spectacular show in the hope of making it second time lucky at Eurovision.
The 26-year-old is 7/2 favourite with Boylesports to win in Belgrade, having been runner-up in Athens in 2006.
On that occasion he finished behind Finnish heavy metal band Lordi, despite his song Never Let You Go taking maximum points from seven countries.
This year he has called in some big-name help as he bids to become the first Russian to win Eurovision with Believe - a song about his struggle for glory in the contest.
Renowned violinist Edvin Marton will provide accompaniment on his Stradivarius, while Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko will perform on a miniature ice rink in the middle of the stage.
Bilan was asked about his chances of victory following a rehearsal in Belgrade and quipped: "The three of us - we are believing."
Hosts Serbia - who like the UK, France, Germany and Spain do not have to take part in the semi-finals - are second favourites, with Jelena Tomasevic's composition Oro 11/2 at Sportingbet.
Ireland's novelty entry - Dustin the Turkey singing Irelande Douze Pointe - is just 5/1 at several bookmakers but can be backed at 20/1 with VC Bet, while Finland's chances of another heavy metal success with Terasbetoni are rated at 100/1 by Skybet.
