Beckford Faces Late Test
Thursday 15 May 2008 at 08:58 Leeds United will give a late fitness test to leading scorer Jermaine Beckford ahead of the second leg of their League One playoff semi-final at Carlisle United on Thursday.
The Whites head to Brunton Park trailing 2-1 and are 15/8 with Paddy Power to progress to the Wembley final.
Beckford played for an hour of the first leg defeat after sitting out the final four games of the league season, but Leeds boss Gary McAllister admitted his selection had not worked.
"It was plain to see on Monday he wasn't 100 per cent fit. We took a gamble and barring a fantastic save from Westwood he would have got us a goal," he told the club's official website.
Should Beckford - who is 6/1 favourite with Totesport to open the scoring in the second leg and 9/4 with William Hill to find the net at any point in the game - miss out, Dougie Freedman will be partnered by Anthony Elding or Tresor Kandol.
Carlisle - 1/2 at Coral to win the tie and 9/4 with Betfred to clinch promotion - could recall David Raven after suspension, but Simon Hackney may miss out after picking up a knock at Elland Road.
