Curragh Manager Gives Irish Derby Ground Forecast
Tuesday 24 June 2008 at 08:43
Paul Henesy, general manager at The Curragh, says the going is likely to be good for the Irish Derby this weekend.
Speaking to the Telegraph, the racetrack boss said the ground is close to that point at the moment and is not expected to change much over the next few days.
"The ground on the Derby course is just on the easy side of good and I would be hopeful based on the forecast [for unsettled weather] that the ground will be close to that for the weekend," he remarked.
Mr Henesy's words have done little to change the Irish Derby odds, with Epsom Derby winner New Approach still a big favourite at 10/11 with Boylesports.
Tartan Bearer is 3/1 at Paddy Power to gain revenge over the horse which beat him into second place earlier this month, while odds of 6/1 are offered by Bet 365 on Casual Conquest - who was third at Epsom.
Washington Irving, Alessandro Volta and Curtain Call are all 14/1 to win the race with SkyBet and Kingdom of Naples and Alexandros are among the 25/1 outsiders at Stan James.
