World Series Of Poker Main Event Lottery Expected

Punters should be expecting the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event, which gets underway on July 3rd, to be "a bit of a lottery".
At least this is the opinion of PokerPlayer magazine's editor-in-chief Dave Woods, who suggested it is a highly unpredictable competition because so many people take part.
Giving a possible explanation for why two relatively unknown players, Jerry Yang and Jamie Gold, won cards' richest competition in 2007 and 2006 respectively, Mr Woods remarked: "I think that you definitely need a lot of luck to get through a field that big."
"You also need to play very, very well," he added.
Phil Ivey is currently the favourite to the win the competition, with Sportingbet offering 66/1 on the five-time WSOP bracelet holder - despite him failing to reach a final table in any event so far.
David Pham and Dave "Devilfish" Ulliott are also well backed with Sportingbet at 100/1 and 150/1 respectively.
Meanwhile, Stan James offers 200/1 on some of the sports biggest stars coming out on top, including Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Gus Hansen and Allen Cunningham.
Hellmuth and Ferguson have both won the tournament before.
