Tait Says Monty Is Capable Of Winning European Open Golf
Wednesday 02 July 2008 at 09:28 Colin Montgomerie has a decent chance of winning the European Open Golf tournament when it gets underway at The London Golf Club in Kent on Thursday, it has been suggested.
The Scotsman, who won the competition last year, is hot off a second-place finish at the French Open and has re-entered the world's top 100.
This has caught of the eye of Golfweek.com's Alistair Tait, who implied in an article available from Fox Sports that the Scotsman has a real shot at successfully defending his crown.
"Who would have thought defending champion Colin Montgomerie would arrive at the European Open as a bonafide contender for this week's title?" the expert remarked.
"Certainly no one who saw him play in the US Open, that's for sure."
Punters who think Monty can continue his quest for a Ryder Cup place with victory in England this weekend can get odds of 28/1 on the sixth favourite at Sportingbet.
Sergio Garcia is the most heavily fancied player at 10/1 with Paddy Power, while Padraig Harrington is 14/1 at VC Bet.
Robert Karlson and Justin Rose are 16/1 and 18/1 respectively at Coral, ahead of Soren Hansen - 22/1 at Boylesports.
