Jo Heading To Premier League In Record City Deal
Thursday 03 July 2008 at 08:50 Brazilian striker Jo has joined Manchester City for a record fee, the Premier League club announced this week.
The man who made his name with an impressive scoring record for CSKA Moscow revealed to the press that he chose to sign for the Citizens despite several "other offers".
"I decided to come to Manchester City because it is one of the clubs who showed more interest in me," he remarked.
Following the deal - the first of Mark Hughes's reign at the City of Manchester Stadium - the north-west side are seventh favourites to win the Premier League this season, with Totesport offering 250/1 on the Eastlands team.
Punters can also get odds of 11/5 at Betfair on City to finish in the top six, with 39/40 Tottenham Hotspur, 25/19 Everton and 31/18 Aston Villa all standing a better chance, according to the bookmaker.
In other news affecting the battle for a Uefa Cup place, Villa have yet again rejected a bid from Liverpool to buy midfield talisman Gareth Barry, while the Merseyside club have also reportedly put in an offer to purchase Robbie Keane from Spurs.
