Phoenix Wants Fast Track For Coral Eclipse Says Grimthorpe
Friday 04 July 2008 at 08:44
Coral Eclipse favourite Phoenix Tower "would like good, fast ground" when he lines up for the Group 1 race at Sandown on Saturday.
At least this is according to Teddy Grimthorpe, Khalid Abdullah's racing manager.
Grimthorpe was quoted by the Herald newspaper as saying the horse is looking in good condition following his run at Royal Ascot and suggests he stands a great chance of winning, particularly if the conditions are ideal.
"He's been a really solid horse. At Ascot, we were fairly confident the ten furlongs would not present a great problem to him," he remarked.
Phoenix Tower is 7/2 at Totesport to win the race, while chief rival Mount Nelson is 4/1 at Sportingbet.
The second favourite is trained by Aidan O'Brien, who will be hoping his stable can continue an excellent season with another Group 1 victory.
Pipedreamer stands the third best chance of winning, according to the odds, with Ladbrokes offering 5/1 on Cheveley Park Stud-owned horse.
He was fourth favourite at the start of the week, but has been backed in ahead of Phoenix Tower's stable-mate Multidimensional, who is 11/2 to win at Paddy Power.
