Tour De France Favourite Says Victory Will Not Be Tainted
Friday 04 July 2008 at 08:46 The favourite to win the 2008 Tour de France Cadel Evans has claimed that victory in this year's competition will not be tainted by the absence of reigning champion Alberto Contador.
Evans, who is 12/5 at Boylesports to win cycling's most prestigious event, said that the ban on the Spaniard and his team competing will not take away from what he hopes to achieve.
"A lot of people have asked me about this and I'm not annoyed about it, but [it will not taint victory] really, no.
"I don't make the rules, I just abide by them."
Evans has won several races this year and is a clear favourite to win the Tour de France, with Alejandro Valverde (4/1, VC Bet) expected to be his nearest rival.
Denis Menchov is 8/1 to win the competition at Sportingbet, ahead of Damiano Conego (14/1, Totesport) and Andy Schleck (14/1, VC Bet).
Juan Mauricio Soler Hernandez is the favourite to be King of the Mountains at 85/40 with Stan James, while Thor Hushovd is the most heavily backed rider to win the Green Jersey at 9/4 with VC Bet.
