Miss Universe Judges Announced
Monday 07 July 2008 at 09:04 The judges for the preliminary night of this year's Miss Universe competition have been announced.
Three Vietnamese people will sit upon the panel, which will help to whittle down the 80 contestants to a shortlist of 15 on July 8th, VietNamNet Bridge reports.
Fashion expert Thuy Tran, Thanh Nien newspaper's editor Nguyen Cong Khe and Miss Universe 2008 crown designer Rosalina Tran Lydster make up the judges from the host nation.
The other seats will be occupied by NBC's vice chairman Dean McFliker, PR aficionado Dave Tomberlin, hair artist Adel Chabbi and designer Fred Howard.
Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela is the joint-favourite to win the competition at the bookmakers, with punters able to get odds of 28/5 at Betfair.
She had previously been outright favourite at 5/1 with PartyBets, but the backing in of Miss United States Crystle Stewart, now also 28/5 at Betfair, has led to her price moving out.
Stewart had been 11/1 at PartyBets to win the contest at the start of the week.
Ly Jonaitis, last year's Miss Venezuela, also started out as the early favourite, but failed to win the competition.
