Premier League Transfer Window Hotting Up
Thursday 10 July 2008 at 09:10
After a relatively quiet start to the summer, the Premier League's transfer window is starting to see quite a lot of action.
Steve Sidwell appears to be on the cusp of a move from Chelsea to Aston Villa, with £5 million the rumoured price tag.
Should the move come off, Martin O'Neill will no doubt be hoping the 25-year-old can boost his team's chances of finishing in the top six during the 2008-2009 campaign.
Villa are currently 9/4 seventh favourites at Paddy Power to achieve this result.
If Sidwell goes to Villa Park it perhaps makes it all the more likely that Gareth Barry will leave the Midlands club and head to Anfield.
O'Neill has reportedly rejected Liverpool offers for the star midfielder, but talks are still ongoing.
Liverpool are looking to improve on recent Premier League performances and are 7/10 at Betfair to do so by finishing third at the end of the season - and 37/13 to be in the top two at the same bookmaker.
They are said to be interested in buying top striker David Villa to replace Peter Crouch, who is set to be unveiled as Portsmouth's new forward later this week.
