Tuesday 05 August 2008 at 09:04
With less than a week to go until the start of the 2008 Olympic Games, punters can now get odds on the majority of the major events which will take place in Beijing. In the men's tennis market, Andy Murray is 10/1 fourth favourite at Paddy Power to come back from the Chinese capital with a gold medal. According to William Hill, he was 16/1 to win the tournament last week, but has been backed in heavily following his victory in the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are both 2/1 for Olympic glory at Paddy Power and Ladbrokes respectively, while Novak Djokovic - who Murray defeated in the final at the Lindner Family Tennis Centre - is 7/2 at Coral. In the men's football competition Argentina are the favourites for gold. A price of 2/1 is available on the South American country at Coral, with Brazil's chances rated at 11/4 by Stan James. Phillips Idowu is arguably Great Britain's best chance of gold in the athletics events. He is 7/4 to win the men's triple jump at Totesport, with Arnie David Girat his nearest rival at 6/1 with SkyBet.
