Chelsea Made New Premier League Favourites
Monday 18 August 2008 at 09:05
PremiershipChelsea are now the favourites to win this season's Premier League following their 4-0 demolition of Portsmouth at Stamford Bridge yesterday.

The Blues did not appear to miss star striker Didier Drogba in their opening match, with Joe Cole, Nicolas Anelka, Frank Lampard and Deco all contributing to the impressive scoreline.

Reigning champions Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at Old Trafford appeared to make up the bookies' minds that some changes to the prices were needed.

Graham Sharpe of William Hill commented: "It may seem an overreaction but it is rare for United to drop points at home and with [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Carlos] Tevez both missing they seemed more adversely affected than Chelsea without Drogba."

Chelsea are 5/4 at Ladbrokes be crowned Premier League champions for 2008-09, while their north-west rivals are available at 12/5 with Totesport.

Arsenal, who defeated West Bromwich Albion 1-0 in their first game on Saturday, are 6/1 at VC Bet, while Liverpool, who struggled to a 1-0 victory over Sunderland later that evening, are 8/1 at William Hill.ADNFCR-1141-ID-18735740-ADNFCR
