Bolt A Huge Favourite To Win Olympic Mens 200m Gold
Tuesday 19 August 2008 at 09:03
Usain Bolt is a massive favourite to win gold in the Olympic men's 200m on Wednesday.
The Jamaican, who casually set a new world record of 9.69sec in the final of the men's 100m on Saturday, is priced at 1/100 with a number of bookies to triumph over the longer distance, with William Hill offering the best odds at 1/25.
A second victory for Bolt is so likely, the odds suggest, that "any other athlete" is the second favourite to win at 14/1 with 888Sport and Blue Square.
Bolt has looked in good shape so far in the heats and cruised through to Tuesday's semi-finals in the fastest time.
His closest rivals are expected to be two-time world 200m silver medallist Wallace Spearmon (33/1, Ladbrokes) and 100m bronze medallist Walter Dix (33/1, Bet 365), both of whom hail from the USA.
Reigning 200m Olympic champion and fellow American Shawn Crawford is also 33/1 to hang on to his title with SkyBet.
Spearmon has run the fastest time out of all of the athletes left in the competition during his career, but has not looked in the same form this year as he was when he clocked 19.65sec in 2006.
