Jamaica Overwhelming Favourites For Olympics Mens 4 X 100m Relay Gold
Friday 22 August 2008 at 08:59
The only way that Jamaica will lose the men's 4 x 100m relay final on Friday afternoon is if they drop the baton, the latest odds from the bookies suggest.
Bet 365 and Coral offer the best odds on the Caribbean nation taking gold at 1/10, with Trinidad & Tobago the next shortest-priced country at 13/2 with Sportingbet.
With double Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Usain Bolt expected to be in the squad, along with fellow finalists Asafa Powell and Michael Frater, Jamaica were the big favourites to win before the competition got underway yesterday.
But a dropped baton by their nearest rivals the USA and the disqualification of reigning champions Great Britain and Northern Ireland has seemingly left a one-horse race.
Brazil (66/1, Paddy Power) are the third favourites, followed by Canada (80/1, Totesport), Germany (100/1, Stan James), Japan (100/1, Sportingbet) and Netherlands (100/1, Ladbrokes).
China are the rank outsiders at 150/1 with Coral.
Victory for Jamaica could seal yet another sprint double for the country.
The women's 4 x 100m team are 1/9 at Sportingbet to win their final earlier in the day.
