More Punters Backing US To Win Ryder Cup Following Europe Wild Card Picks
Friday 12 September 2008 at 09:14
Nick Faldo's wild card picks for the European Ryder Cup team caused more punters to place bets on the US, a spokesman for Totesport has suggested.
Peter Petrie, who represents the bookmaker, claimed that the omission of Darren Clarke in particular led to many "thinking that there was a bit of value" to be had in placing a wager on the US.
He said that some punters believe not all is happy within the European camp, although they are still the favourites to win the Ryder Cup in the market.
"Certainly in the last couple of weeks since Nick Faldo made his 'wild pick' announcements, a lot of the money has been for the US," Mr Petrie remarked.
Europe are odds on for victory at a lot of bookies, although Paddy Power actually makes the US the favourites.
The betting shop offers the longest odds on Europe winning at 11/10, while SkyBet has the best price on a US triumph at 13/10.
Bettors can get 12/1 at SkyBet on the match ending in a draw.
