Friday 19 September 2008 at 11:11
The foursomes for today's opening Ryder Cup matches have been announced, prompting a flurry of activity in the betting market.
According to William Hill, money for Europe has prompted odds for Nick Faldo's men to come in, as punters fancy the favourites to come out on top on day one.
"On paper we are very impressed with the first look and can see why we have taken an £11,000 bet on Europe within minutes of the announcement," said spokesman Rupert Adams.
Padraig Harrington and Robert Karlsson and set to lead off against the USA's Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim, as Faldo stuck with the pairings he accidentally revealed earlier in the week.
Stan James has Europe at evens to win the foursomes on day one, with Paddy Power offering the best price of 11/8.
Those who expect an upset can get 7/4 with William Hill, although Betfred gives odds of 11/8 for the hosts.
Overall, Europe are favourites to defend the trophy this weekend, the best odds being the evens offered by Betfred and Paddy Power.
