Tigers Take Control Against Watford
Monday 12 May 2008 at 09:06 Hull City are the new favourites to win the Championship playoffs following their 2-0 semi-final first leg win at Watford on Sunday.
Veteran duo Nicky Barmby and Dean Windass found the target in the opening 23 minutes to secure a valuable advantage to take back to the KC Stadium for Wednesday's return leg.
The Tigers also enjoyed the better of the refereeing decisions, with a Danny Shittu goal mystifyingly ruled out and Hornets midfielder John Eustace harshly sent off.
Hull are now 11/10 with Betfred to win promotion, while Watford can be backed at 20/1 with William Hill to be playing Premier League football next season and 7/1 with Bet365 to reach the Wembley final.
Crystal Palace, favourites to go up before the playoffs kicked off, lost the first leg of their semi-final 2-1 against Bristol City at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
A 53rd-minute Louis Carey goal looked set to give the Robins a one-goal advantage ahead of Tuesday's second leg at Ashton Gate, only for Ben Watson to bring the scores level with a late penalty.
However, David Noble's spectacular injury-time strike restored Bristol City's lead and saw their price cut from 6/5 to 4/11 with Bet365 to reach the final.
Gary Johnson's team are best-priced at 23/10 with William Hill to win the playoffs, but Palace have gone out from 7/4 to 4/1 with Boylesports to win promotion.
