Al Gore has emerged as the favourite to receive this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
Shortlists are not released by the five member Norwegian voting panel but it is believed that the former US vice-president and Democrat presidential candidate is in the running.
Gore is currently priced at 5/2 with Paddy Power to win the peace prize, though confusingly it's not his peace work, but his role in highlighting global warming that has caught the attention of many who hope he wins the award.
It would be a controversial move if the judges placed saving the planet above saving people from war and conflict.
Second favourite on 4/1 is Polish Holocaust heroine Irene Sendler who earlier this year was recognised for her role in saving 2,500 Jewish children from the Nazis in Warsaw during World War II.
Former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari is priced at 5/1 for his work to broker a peace deal in Aceh, Indonesia.
On 4/1 is Canadian Inuit campaigner Sheila Watt-Cloutier, who again has highlighted the affects of global warming, specifically on Arctic communities.
Meanwhile, ubiquitous Irish warbler Bono is priced at 10/1 for his campaigning, and countryman Bob "give us your f***** money" Geldof is priced at 20/1.
Supreme commander of the US armed forces, and president of a nation that has invaded two countries and bombed several others so far this century, George W Bush is priced at 250/1 to win the peace prize. Meanwhile, Britain's own Tony Blair is priced at a rather more favourable 100/1.
For those that believe that celebrities hold the answer to life's woes, a bet on Jade Goody is available with odds of 500/1.
