2002 Coq Hardi Diamond 8yo Noel Meade
Betting Preview:
The Leopardstown four day Christmas festival has many highlights but the almost Euro190,000 prizemoney of the Paddy Power Case ensures that gambles galore take place in this most competitive of handicaps - so where should we look for the winner?
Given the strength of the field it is best to split stakes between two selections. The first, Hear The Echo, is trained by Mouse Morris who trained the winner of this race in 2004 with Keepatem. Hear The Echo has always been well regarded and spent last season running in Graded Novice Chases. Handicaps will undoubtedly suit him better and he was noted being given a very tender ride on his second race back this year when fifth at Galway in October. He is potentially well handicapped and is the main selection.
It may also pay to include Edward OGradys frustrating 7 year old, Omuircheartaigh. The one time favourite for the 2006 Supreme Novices Hurdle had started to look a difficult ride but a change of tactics by Andrew McNamara seemed to revitalise the talented gelding last time out at Punchestown and if the momentum continues then he too looks on a very favourable mark. The stable is in great form with three winners at Leopardstown on Boxing Day and this one could add to the tally.
