ALL IN
When a player bets all his money or chips on a hand. If he loses
he has nothing left.
ANTE
The minimum bet that players must stake in order to take part in
the hand. Blinds are used instead in hold em games.
BAD BEAT
When a very good hand – one that would normally win the pot is
beaten.
BIG BLIND
The second bet placed before any cards are dealt – normally
double the small blind and equal to the lower bet applying to
the table. Ie in a $1/$2 game the small blind is normally 0.50$
and the big blind $1. The blinds are placed so everyone has
something to play for. If you join a game part the way through
you will also be asked to place a big blind.
BIG SLICK
Holding AK cards with your first two cards (pocket or hole
cards)
BLIND BET
A bet placed before any cards are seen.
BLUFF
Betting as if you have a better hand than you do in the hope
that others fold.
BOAT
A full house
BULLETS
A pair of aces
BUY IN
The amount you must have in order to join a game. Some games
have minimum and maximum amounts of money you may have at a
table.
CALL
When you place a bet equal to the previous bet.
CAP
When you cant raise any more in a round you may either call or
fold.
CHECK
You check to stay in the game without making a further bet.
CHECK - RAISE
You check at the start of the round and then raise when your
turn comes round again.
COMMUNITY CARDS
The card that are dealt to the table – All players can use these
cards.

Pair of twos
FIFTH STREET
The third round of betting.
FLOP
The thirst three cards dealt to the table – community cards.
FOLD
To throw away your cards and get out of the current game.
FOURTH STREET
The second round of betting.
FLUSH
Five cards of the same suit make a flush. Flush draw – when a
player holds four cards of the same suit and is hoping to draw
(be dealt) the fifth one.
HEADS UP
Game with just two players battling head to head.
HOLE CARDS
The cards you are dealt and only you can use to form your hand –
also known as pocket cards.
KICKER
The highest unpaired card a player holds from his hole or pocket
cards. If you
have a pair of kings and your next best card is an Ace you have
a pair of kings ace kicker and would beat a pair of kings jack
kicker.
LIMPING IN
Calling the big blind and joining in the game without raising –
often thought of as a week play.
MUCK
When you get to the end of the game – the showdown and have lost
– you may not want anyone to see what cards you had so you can
muck – not reveal your cards.
NUTS
The best possible hand – cannot be beaten at this stage of the
game.
OUTS
The cards which will make the hand the player is trying to
achieve or drawing to .
POCKET CARDS
The cards dealt face down to players – also known as hole cards.
POT
The cash or chips that you are playing for.
RAKE
The percentage of the pot taken by the house.
RAISE
To increase the bet mad by the player before you and in turn
increase the amount that the other players will have to put i9n
to stay in the game.
RIVER
The final card dealt – the last community card.
SEVENTH STREET
The fifth and final round of betting. Called seventh street as
the players now have seven cards.
SHOWDOWN
Following the last betting round the players left in compare
hands – the player who was called shows his hand first – the
best hand wins the pot.
SMALL BLIND
The first bet of the game – made by the player to the left of
the dealer before any cards are dealt.
STACK
A players pile of chips or cash.
THIRD STREET
The first round of betting.
TURN
The fourth community card dealt.
