The premier race on day 2 of the festival is the Queen Mother Champion Chase. Run over 2 miles it attracts quality animals who jump well and have stamina.

Previous festival form is imperative with a large percentage of winners having either been placed or won at the track before. Big priced horses tend not to win this race and we should be looking at the first 3 in the betting.

The current betting for the 2008 renewal sees Twist Magic as favourite at 9/4 with Boylesports. Since being beaten by Tamarinbleu 10/1 with Totesport in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot this festival banker has been drifting. If the ground is soft come March he could be vulnerable.

Second favourite is the Alan King trained Voy Por Ustedes the current champion at 11/4 with Betfred, already beaten by Twist Magic this season he may be able to turn the tables.

My Way De Solzen winner of last year Arkle is another Alan King inmate and was aiming for the top chasing honours in 2008 but has run poorly in both outings this season. However he has the profile and stamina of a winner and at a big price he would be a value recommendation if he takes his chance at a massive 12/1 with Paddy Power, it will surely come post time be much shorter. However it is unlikely that both Alan King horses will line up.

Others to consider are the Nicky Henderson Jack The Giant at 16/1 with SkyBet and the Irish trained Nickname who will only run if soft going at 20/1 with William Hill.
