Different Tennis Markets
Outright Betting
This is betting on the winner of the entire tournament. Betting is normally available on the men’s and women’s tournaments. Most bookmakers will allow each way betting, normally offering a third of the odds on the place part of he bet if your selection finishes first or second.
Normally the draw is known for tennis tournaments so if you find a player in the weak half of the draw, even if they aren't the most likely to win the tournament they could be a good each way bet.

The two favourites for a tournament may be in the same half of the draw meaning they can't play each other in the final.
This makes the third favourite for the tournament the favourite to reach the final from the other half of the draw.
Match Betting
This is betting on who is going to win each individual match in a tournament. There are only two possible outcomes in each match so the odds are likely to be very short for the favourites so many people place four or five players in an accumulator each round, often mixing both men’s and women’s matches. There are no restrictions on this.

Set betting
Like correct score betting in football, this bet is the prediction of what the score in sets will be. There aren’t as many outcomes in football so the odds are shorter. Like in match betting, different set bets can be put together in an accumulator or multiple bet.
To Win 1st Set
This bet is exactly what it seems. Betting on which player is going to win the first set. The favourite for the match will be favourite in this market and value can sometimes be obtained in opposing some slow starters

Advantages of Tennis In Running
Some players have a tendency to take time to reach the top of their game so value can sometimes be gained from backing slow starters in running at larger odds than they were pre match.
Also by watching the beginning of a match you can sometimes get a feel for how its going to turnout. Beware however that tennis matches often turn on a single incident which changes the mental state of the players - this creates both a risk and an opportunity
Disadvantages of Tennis In Running
Tennis is a sport where each game has a large bearing on each match therefore the odds can change dramatically throughout the match. Sometimes it is hard to get your bet placed as the markets can be suspended often in order for the odds to be changed.
Surfaces
Before betting on a tournament the surface the game is going to be played on has to be considered. Different tournaments are played on different surfaces. The main two to consider are grass and clay, although some games are played on so called hard courts, which are made of cement or plastic, and indoor courts, which use carpet.
Grass
This is the fastest type of surface and serves are very important in what are often very short points. It favours serve-and-volley style players and Roger Federer is currently the dominant force in the grass court game. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam Event played on grass.
Clay
The only Grand Slam event played on clay is the French Open. Clay courts are considered to be slower courts and the best player on grass isn’t necessarily the best player on clay. Rafael Nadal is currently the number one male on clay despite Roger Federer’s domination of the grass court game. Between April 2005 and May 2007 Rafael Nadal won 81 consecutive matches on clay.
Hard Court
The remaining two Grand Slam events, the Australian Open and the US Open are played on hard courts. The hard court is considered to be the most equal course for what sort of playing style it favours. It varies from court to court as to how fast it is but is slower than grass and faster than clay. Low bounces make rallies short and there is a slight edge to powerful and harder serving players.
