Scoop 6

What is the Scoop 6?

The Scoop6 is a special bet run by the Tote every Saturday. You can enter by opeing an account with Totesport through a link on this page.

The aim of the bet is to back the six winners of the six main televised races each week. Unlike a normal accumulator where you would know exactly how much you will win if you get all your selections correct, the Scoop 6 pits all punters against each other. All stakes are entered into a pool and punters are eliminated race by race until the six races are over. The prize is shared by all punters who remain in the competition after the six races.

The Scoop 6 costs £2 to enter, £1 of which goes into the win fund and £1 of which goes into the placepot. If all of your selections place in their respective races you will share the placepot fund with all of the punters who do the same.

It is possible to pick more than one selection in each race but this is going to cost more. The simplest way to work out how much the bet is going to cost is to multiply the number of selections you have in each race by each other, and then multiply that number by £2 to find your stake. The more you pick the more it will cost. Watch out because just picking two horses in each race is going to cost £128 (2x2x2x2x2x2x£2).

How to bet on the scoop 6

The first thing to do is to work out which horses you think have a chance in each race. Try to narrow it down as much as possible to avoid wasting your stake. If there is a short price favourite in one of the races and you think it is a certainty you might not want to bother picking a back up selection in the same race.

If you think a favourite might be beaten then you might want to choose 2 or more horses against it. If a short price favourite loses it will knock out a lot of entries so there might be a bigger pot for you!!

Bookmakers such as Totesport, Bet365 and Blue Square all allow Scoop 6 bets through their websites. Click on one of the above links to open an account.

You can normally select your horses by name or number and then all you have to do is confirm the amount of lines (permutations) you are betting and the amount the bet comes to. Then just sit back and enjoy the afternoon’s racing!

Bonus

Each week there is a bonus race. This is for the winner(s) of the previous week’s Scoop 6 to attempt to win another pool, the bonus fund. The bonus race is normally a competitive handicap with many possible winners. If more than one punter chooses the same horse in the bonus race then the bonus fund will be shared if that horse wins. If no one picks the winner of the bonus race then the bonus fund rolls over to the next week until it is won.

Rollover

It is not only the bonus fund that rolls over if it is not won. The main Scoop 6 prize also rolls over each week that it is not won. It is not uncommon for the prize to break the £1m barrier making it a very popular bet. For example on Saturday 20 October, 2007 the prize fund stood at more than £2.5 million. The bigger price the winner in each race, the more people that are likely to be eliminated and the more chance there is of there being a rollover the following week.
