Fiorentina Looking A Tough Nut To Crack In UEFA Cup
|
22/04/08
Bayern Munich are still short priced favourites for the Uefa Cup at 6/5 with Totesport. They obviously warrant a massive amount of respect but better value lies elsewhere.
Fiorentina have looked a very good side this year both domestically and in Europe and they are going to be a very tough side to beat this year in the Uefa Cup. Fiorentina are 5/2 with Bet365 and should be able to overcome Rangers and reach the final at the very least.

The most successful club in the UEFA Cup is Juventus who have won the competition three times and finished runners up another three times. Although the Italian clubs dominated this competition during the 90s the English and Spanish clubs have caught up somewhat in the last ten years and now regularly have at least one team in the final.
Interestingly, three of the ‘smaller’ clubs that have won the tournament in the last few years, Galatasaray in 2000, FC Porto in 2003 and CSKA Moscow in 2005, all won their domestic double (league and cup) also that year. This shows that for a so called smaller club to win the tournament they have to be particularly strong that year.
This Season
Juande Ramos, who guided Sevilla to victory in the last two UEFA Cups, has just taken over as new head coach at Spurs and they look an outstanding bet at 12/1 with Bet365, Paddy Power or Stan James.
Tottenham may have started this season poorly but they have a new manager who is going to come in and shake things up. The fact that their league campaign is already in tatters is likely to strengthen their bid for UEFA Cup glory as they will be able to rest players in preparation for the bigger games later on in the tournament.
The opposite can probably be said about current 100/30 favourites with Blue Square, Bayern Munich. They clearly have the best team in the competition but their main target this season is Champions League qualification and when the games start to build up towards the business end of the campaign it is the league which is going to take priority.
Another side that catches the eye is Villarreal who are 14/1 with Bet365 and Blue Square. They have a good combination of strong defence and goal scoring forwards and are likely to perform very well this year.
