Previous Winners
2008 Ronnie OSullivan
2007 John Higgins
2006 Graham Dott
2005 Shaun Murphy
2004 Ronnie OSullivan
2003 Mark Williams
It will be a travesty if Ronnie OSullivan gets to the end of his career and he has only won the World Championship twice (2001 and 2004) but the mercurial genius has a great chance to improve a record which should, by now, be closing in on the six and seven titles of Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry.
The draw has been relatively kind this year to OSullivan and the big hurdle to the final looks a potential second round match up with a revitalised Mark Williams. Also in the top of half of the draw is last years winner John Higgins, Hendry, Ding Junhui and Ken Doherty but none of these appeal. A darker horse may be Marco Fu who has beaten OSullivan twice this year but its hard to see him raising the World Title.
In the bottom half of the draw the in-form Mark Selby will be all the rage, as will the consistent Shaun Murphy but more appealing is Stephen Maguire. A most frustrating player from a punting point of view it is hoped that now he has managed to win a tournament again after his his recent win in China the winning habit will become more regular. At his best he is the strongest threat to OSullivan.
