Yulia Navalnaya is now joint favourite to win the Time Person of the Year award for 2024

Alexei Navalny's widow Yulia Navalnaya has moved into the joint favourite to win the Time Person of the Year for 2024 as she steps into her late partner's shoes as the face of the opposition.

Ms. Navalnaya has stepped up following the passing of her husband Navalny by vowing to hold Russian President Vladimir Putin responsible for his death.

“The main thing we can do for Alexei and for ourselves is to keep on fighting,” Navalnaya told Russians in a powerful, emotional video back in February.

Bookmakers have now added Nalanaya to the betting market to win the Time Person of the Year award with her continuation of Navelny's work putting her at the forefront of global politics.

Presumed pseudonymous person Satoshi Nakamoto is also joint favourite

Satoshi Nakamoto is the name that is used by the person or people who developed Bitcoin, with no one knowing the exact person who it is.

Australian computer scientist Craig Wright had claimed to be the Bitcoin creator but a five-week trial wrapped up in March ruled that it is not him.

Dr Wright has claimed to be Nakamoto since 2016 but Cryptocurrency experts have doubted him repeatedly and the High Court confirmed that those doubts were right earlier this month.

Taylor Swift won Time Person of the Year for 2023

Taylor Swift was announced as the 2023 Time Person of the Year last December with the magazine's editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs giving the reasoning behind the decision.

"Swift found a way to transcend borders and be a source of light," said Jacobs piece in Time's December issue which went into detail around the pop singer being voted ahead of political leaders around the globe.

The Time Person of the Year is a massive accolade and one that contributes further to the success that Swift had throughout 2023.
