Which Online Sportsbook has the Best Football Coverage?

Having a wide choice of leagues, divisions and events to choose from separates one football sportsbook apart from another.

American Football is not a global game however, outside of the US and the CFL in Canada, there are no other amateur, college or professional league on which betting is covered. This will result in most sportsbooks only being different from each other of they cover college football or CFL.

Which Online Sportsbook is Best for In-Game Wagers?

NFL is made for Live betting. And there is little more excitement to be had than watching the game live and being able to place bets as the match ebbs and flows.

Also betting live in-game on football allows you to top up on bets you have made pre-match that are looking good, or maybe minimize losses if a wager is going against you by making further wagers in-game.

Use Caution with Live Betting In Game

Be sure you know the delay in the live stream you are watching while wagering on the game to ensure you are not betting for something that has already gone against you,

Most sportsbooks offer in-game betting on the NFL, and our team has watched and wagered in a range of games [It's a hard life!], to find you the best online sportsbook for in-play football betting.

Which Sportsbook for Football Futures?

Football betting sharps like to find the best betting options, biggest value, and best prices by exploring the football futures markets.

Finding the widest choice of pre-season and ongoing futures markets for divisions, play-off and even player futures is a key part to their football betting strategy.

Huge Value Can be Found in Futures

Football betting sharps use futures markets to complement their week to week betting strategy. The earlier you can bet on an event, higher odds and better value can be found.

Futures wagering can be make or break for some, with much higher odds available months in advance of divisional outcomes. The further you can predict a result ahead of time, the higher the betting odds are likely to be.

A great online football sportsbook will offer the greatest range, and be the most innovative in their football futures wagering markets.

How to Choose the Right NFL Betting Site for YOU!

The right betting site will be one for someone and maybe another for someone else depending on how you bet and what markets you like to wager on.

Let's go in-depth on some things to consider.

Stuff to Consider

When choosing an online sportsbook to make your football bets with, the following areas are thing to consider.

Football Betting Markets

When looking for an online sportsbook to make NFL bets online, you'll want to ensure that you can be on the market you prefer. The best sportsbooks will have the most significant choice of betting markets for you to choose from.

Ensure your sportsbook covers all the most popular betting lines and prop options

The most popular place to start is by looking at the available betting lines. All sportsbooks should feature them.

Betting Markets

Over 143 different types of bet can be placed on a single football game with some sportsbooks, and that really is quite some number. You could set your own spread, effectively choosing your preferred odds for your pick. And there is a host of quarter by quarter and timeline markets. Some did seem quite different but it was fun taking a look through all of the options. If you want to specialize in your football betting finding the sportsbook with the widest range of options is essential.

The most popular types of bets are betting lines. All sportsbooks offer these and they are as follows.

What is a betting Line in NFL?

The primary betting lines will be made up of three markets based on the final results, the total points scored and points spread.

Let's explain the main betting lines, to begin with using a game between the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings.

Money Line Betting

OAK Raiders +320 - MIN Vikings -420

Money Line betting is betting on the final result with no handicap or points spread. It is only wagering on the team you think will win the game outright. It will not matter how many points a team wins buy, the price you see will be for the win, no matter the score. You will often find considerable variations in these odds as so many matchups are mismatches.

Points Spread Betting

Most games in the NFL are mismatches until we get to the playoffs. Because of this, you will find very small or very big prices available on the money line.

To make things a bit more interesting sportsbooks will predict the winning margin for the favorite and offer to bet against this.

Example:

Chicago Bears vs. Washington Redskins

The Chicago Bears are the heavy favorite to win this match, so a sportsbook is offering a point spread of 4 to the bears.

If you wager the bears to win this match on the point spread, they will have to win by more than 4 points. If you bet on the Redskins, they will have to lose by less than 3 points for you to win.

Totals Betting - Over/Under

Totals betting is betting on how many points in total will be scored in a matchup. Now don't worry, you do not have to predict exactly how many points will be scored. The sportsbook will do that for you and offer you wagering opportunities on whether they have called the number too high or too low.

You have the opportunity to wager 'over' the sportsbook's prediction or 'under.'

The bet is very much like the handicap lines, and you predict which way the sportsbook has got it wrong.

Example:

In the game between Houston and the Chargers, the points total predicted by one online sportsbook is 49.

So they offer to bet on

  • Under 48.5
  • Over 48.5

All you have to do is predict if it will be under or over

Other Betting Markets you Will Want to Use.

Other Football Bets of Interest

When betting on football you should also consider these wagering options below.

In addition to the Betting Lines, all of which, usually have quite low odds, there are other markets you can play which will provide you with bigger odds.

Futures Betting

It is a very descriptive bet as rather than the next game, futures betting involves predicting something a little further into the future.

An example would be to predict the SuperBowl winner whilst the season is midway, or better still, even before the season starts. Of course the earlier you make this prediction and bet, the larger the odds are likely to be.

You can bet on the winners of the various divisions. You can even bet on how many passing yeards a team, or even a player will make during the season.

Futures betting offers the opportunity of long-range forecasts and long-lasting bets.

Prop Betting

Prop bets are very popular offering larger odds bets. They are most frequently used at the end of the season during the playoffs and for the SuperBowl itself. By default, these games attract the largest amount of bets anyway.

You can make bets on the number of sacks, rushing yards, passing yards, etc. You can choose these elements for the team as a whole or for bigger odds yet, for individual players.

How many TD's will there be in the game, how many for each side?

My favorite is predicting the scorer of the first TD. OLBG has some very good tipsters who have great success with this prop bet.

Parlay Betting

When affected by very low odds for the favored teams in many of the divisional mismatches in NFL, it is possible to combine some predictions

Selecting three different teams to win their respective matches and placing them in a parlay bet will combine, or accumulate the respective odds to create bigger odds and a better return if all predictions are correct.

Let's take three matches and presume each of the three favored sides is priced -150 each. As we know in this case, on a single game, you would have to bet $100 to get $150 in return. But placing these three in a parlay increases those odds.

Keep your Parlay List Sensible

The more picks you add to your Parlay the more unlikely it will be correct. Consider 3 or 4 picks at most.

If you placed this bet for all three teams to win at -150, your minus odds would accumulate to a plus odds situation. +237 in fact, meaning a $100 bet would now return $337

You do not have to parlay many different bets for the odds to stack up. Remember though, the more picks in a parlay the more places it can go wrong, and only one wrong prediction and the entire stake is lost!

NFL In Game Betting

Live NFL Betting brings a whole new level of excitement to betting on football. Being able to track the game and make a wager on what's going to happen add a new element to the game.

Not all sportsbooks offer live betting the state section above will let you know which sportsbooks in your state offer live betting on football.

  • What is Moneyline in betting NFL

Moneyline betting on football is predicting and betting on the team to score the most points and win the game. It is as simple as that.

  • Should I bet Spread or Moneyline?

The choice is yours. Moneyline only requires you to predict which team will score the most points, while the spread will apply a handicap either for against each team. Those teams will have to overcome that handicap on tops of their points total for you to win you wager. Choose whichever option in which you have the most confidence.

  • Is it legal to bet on NFL games?

It certainly is with any sportsbook listed on this page, and those listed on the sportsbook pages here on OLBG. We list only legally licensed sportsbooks in US states, and as long as you are of the right age and located within the state in which it is legal to wager online, you can bet legally on football.

  • How do NFL spreads work?

The sportsbook will select a spread, and the team you choose will have to win by at least the amount of the selected spread. You will have a positive and negative spread for each side with the underdog gaining the positive spread and therefore that many points start. The spread is either added or deducted from the final scores.

  • How do plus and minus odds work?

Plus and Minus odds can be quite confusing in the beginning.

Minus odds mean that is the amount you would have to wager to win $100. Example, if the odds are -190, you would have to bet $190 to get $100 profit if your pick was correct. Minus odds cover the favored outcomes in sports betting.

Plus odds, or the opposite in that the plus figure is the amount of profit you would make on your wager if you were to bet $100.

+190 would then return $290, or $190 profit on the wager. Hope that helps.

If it is still confusing, try fractional or decimal odds!

  • What does over under mean in NFL?

Over and under in football betting is usually aligned with totals betting.

Totals betting is the total number of points scored by both teams combined. The sportsbook will select a figure closest to their prediction for the game, and you can wager either the real score will be over or under that amount.

The odds are usually very similar. Find a game, check the totals score, and see if you can predict if there will be more or fewer points than predicted by the sportsbook on your next wager.
